New study may predict where a specific type of cancer may spread in the brain
Cancer cells may be able to adapt to regional microenvironments in the brain that allow the cancer to progress. The findings suggest that the location of brain metastasis is not random; cancer cells may be able to adapt to regional microenvironments in the brain, allowing cancer to progress. Brain metastasis happens when cancer spreads from […] The post New study may predict where a specific type of cancer may spread in the brain appeared first on Revyuh .

IBM AI Introduces VanDEEPol: A Hybrid Model That Combines VDP with Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) To Predict Brain Activity
‘VanDEEPol’, a hybrid AI/mechanistic model to predict brain activity and structure from imaging data, is IBM’s most recent development in the field of brain activity predictions. Compared to earlier methods, the model greatly improves predicted accuracy and promises to one day aid in detecting medical diseases or the construction of brain-computer interfaces by predicting brain […] The post IBM AI Introduces ‘VanDEEPol’: A Hybrid Model That Combines VDP with Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs) To Predict Brain Activity appeared first on MarkTechPost .

Lung cancer patient who had declined conventional cancer treatment: could the self-administration of CBD oil be contributing to the observed tumour regression?
Conventional lung cancer treatments include surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy; however, these treatments are often poorly tolerated by patients. Cannabinoids have been studied for use as a primary cancer treatment. Cannabinoids, which are chemically similar to our own bodys endocannabinoids, can interact with signalling pathways to control the fate of cells, including cancer cells. We present […]

Whats missing from forest mortality projections? A look underground
You can't see it happening. But what goes on below ground in a forest is very important in determining its fate. In a study, scientists conclude that the sideways flow of water through soil can have an important impact on how riparian forests respond to climate change. Models used to predict the future plight of forests typically don't account for this factor -- but they should, researchers say.

Does anyone know a good tool for decoys datasets generation to validate virtual screening?
Hi, this question might be a bit specific, but I am looking for a good website/ tool to generate decoys for the validation of docking setups (to generate a ROC-curve). I usually use the DUD database but it does not seem to work properly anymore. I am also aware of decoy finder but that does not factor in charges. Glad for any tipps, if the question is too focused on computer-chemistry maybe someone can recomend a better subreddit for this type of question. Thanks! submitted by /u/goldenMinish [link] [comments]

Loss of Beneficial Microglial Function in Alzheimer's Disease
A growing body of evidence suggests that microglia in the brain are important in the progression of neurodegenerative conditions such as Alzheimer's disease. Like the similar macrophages outside the brain, microglia can adopt packages of behavior known as polarizations. M1 is an aggressive, inflammatory polarization suited to hunting pathogens, while M2 is an anti-inflammatory, pro-regenerative polarization suited to the maintenance and repair of tissue. This taxonomy is an oversimplification of a more complex reality, but it is a useful model when thinking about how and why microglia may contribute to neurodegeneration. Chronic inflammation in brain tissue is a feature of neurodegenerative conditions, and activated M1 microglia help to sustain that inflammatory state. This contribution to chronic inflammation is particularly the case when microglia become senescent, […]

Machine learning approach effective in predicting antibiotic resistance spread
Genes aren't only inherited through birth. Bacteria have the ability to pass genes to each other, or pick them up from their environment, through a process called horizonal gene transfer, which is a major culprit in the spread of antibiotic resistance.
