A question puzzling me about NAD+
I was having an argument with my friends about NADH and the electrons it carries. This was not necessarily in the context of oxidative phosphorylation, just generally. I was having trouble understanding where the electrons come from and where do they go. To explain NAD+ + H+ + 2e -> NADH (where do these two electrons come from? If one is from hydrogen, where is the other one from?) My friends explained that since this is a reaction in the human body, it is in an aqueous solution and the reaction is more like this: NAD+ + H+ +2OH- -> NADH + H2O (which did not convince me as it is not even a stoichiometrically balanced equation nor have we ever heard that reduction of a NAD+ releases a water molecule). I then did my own search which yielded that the correct form of the equation is: NAD+ + 2H+ + 2e -> NADH + H+ where the two electrons come from the two hydrogens it is taking from the molecule being oxidized, and it releases a hydrogen ion. I was satisfied enough wi

Cell simulator
Is there a software that represents fully a simple cell structure with its 10s of million of molecules? the question is related to representation in a certain moment. A follow up is for simulating reactions and change over time in some medium, even if for a fraction of a second. If such knowledge is not available today, what is the smallest biological "element" that we can simulate today to the molecule level? submitted by /u/symbiosome [link] [comments]

Charging from a top floor flat!
Hello! Im new to the EV world. I have just bought a Renault Zoe off my dad for a very good price I couldnt refuse. I have always wanted an EV and live in Bristol with a ULEZ in place so its an ideal car really. I have two issues firstly I need to address the issue of my address, as I have a top floor flat! Second I have a very tight budgetBut I love a challenge :) My temp solution will be running an extension lead, slow charging out of a window but obviously need to sort a proper charging solution as soon as possible. Good news: - I am an engineer, love DIY and solving a problems. - My block of flats has the whole electrical/ gas services cupboard down by the road. - Its a very quiet narrow road which people avoid driving down. only 3 cars every hour in the daytime for example. Bad news. - Cars have to park on the other side of the road to the building. - My fuse box is in my flat, not the electrical cupboard. So looking for some advice and someone to mark my homework on

FTIR data analysis origin
Sooo, I want to calculate the degree of conversion of my acrylic-based Materials. I measured the absorption using FTIR-ATR. As I don't have any aromatic molecule to use as an internal standard, I will rely on the C=O double bond. It is not accurate and it did change during polymerization, but this is the only option I had. I attached the absorption spectrum. you an see that my peaks are not sharp and I have splitting. To avoid overestimation. I integrated the peaks using origin. I am not experienced when it comes to origin, I performed all necessary steps to integrate and I got the table attached. I don't know which value should I take for my calculation, the Integral result of the height ? or the integral result of the Area ? or something g else ??? I attached the DC Formula as well. Also If anyone can explain to me why the C=C a'd the C=O are splitted I would appreciate it. For the record, the resin contains two unknown Aliphatic Urethan Diacrylates monomers, TEGDMA, tr

LOL: Alina Habba Thinks Manhattan Is A State. No, Really
We've already established here that Trump lawyer Alina Habba is trash And Habba has established that she's ridiculously stupid, too. Habba was asked in a relatively recent interview whether she would rather be pretty or smart. She said, 'Oh easy, pretty I can fake being smart.' That's not true at all. She hasn't been faking it very well. And I'd rather be smart because being a smart lawyer means rejecting any possible ties to Donald Trump. The twice-impeached guy who was found liable for sexual abuse is a career-ender. Just ask John Eastman and Rudy Giuliani, among others, about that. So, she's trash and stupid. Alina Habba thinks Manhattan is a state. Repeat: One of Trump's 'best people' thinks Manhattan, one of five boroughs in New York, is a state. New York *State is a state, you weirdo. It's also the former President's home state. 'He should win, and if he's given a fair jury, if he's given a fair court, if he's not in Manhattan, which is a completely blue state

Bf and I accused of flushing condom after one was found in the septic, but we arent intimate! Could they just get mixed in from somewhere else?
Hello all! So I know a little about septics, but I know you cant flush any feminine products or anything thats not biodegradable isnt allowed to be flushed. So my bf and I are staying at his parents house for the week and they just had the septic cleaned today. Keep in mind, I have not bought condoms nor have be bothered to have sex because its kinda weird to both of us to have intercourse when he has brothers here that move around a lot and his parents stay up late so there really isnt the desire nor privacy to. Later on today his parents told us that they had found condoms in the septic. To which we were both like uhhh weird. We havent done anything since weve been here. They just kinda said well even so, its gotta be disposed elsewhere(to which I already know) and they said when they asked my bfs brothers they said they looked at them like they were crazy. So now its REALLY awkward bc we both have not been intimate nor have we bought them, and they never had them in the
